The Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service (VBLS) is the largest and oldest beach service in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with origins dating back to 1930.

Originally organized by local hotels to protect guests at the oceanfront, today VBLS seasonally patrols more than 2 ½ miles of beaches and boardwalk deploying more than 200 lifeguards at 49 stands ranging from the public beaches near Camp Pendleton to 89th Street.
